Company History
Landry & Bogan, Incorporated is the evolutionary development of the theatre consulting practice begun by Paul Landry in 1965. From the beginning, its fundamental goal has been to help theatre users identify and prioritize their functional needs and to know the technology to meet those needs in the most efficient and economical ways.
The principals of the firm have been working together for almost 20 years; Jack Bogan, Heather McAvoy and
Rose Steele have worked on over 200 projects together, resulting in more than 100 constructed or renovated performance
spaces.
Jack Bogan, together with the late Paul Landry, worked on several hundred more studies, renovations, facility planning
guides, theatrical equipment system designs and constructed facilities over the last 37 years. Our clients include civic governments,
professional regional and repertory theatre companies, community theatre groups, high schools, colleges and universities.
In 2000 we were joined by our associate consultant, Jim Hultquist who designs lighting and rigging systems and lends his talents to project management and general consulting. His skills and background are a great addition and allow us to provide services for more and larger projects with the same level of dedication and attention to detail.
We have developed a base of knowledge techniques appropriate to planning theatres of all types and sizes. In all cases, our goal is to assist the client and the architect in the design of a physical structure which will fully support the client's performance and production goals.
Our background includes extensive hands-on theatrical design & production work, administration, and university-level teaching
for all types of theatrical productions generated at professional, regional, university, and community theatre settings.
In practice, this means that recommendations about both production and support spaces are made with a first hand knowledge
of their ramifications.
In addition, our experience has given us close contact with construction costs, time requirements, and problems implicit in various performing arts building solutions. We have specialized knowledge of building codes applicable to places of assembly; control rooms, orchestra pits and other theatrical spaces.
We are fully computer fluent, including CAD capability, e-mail, electronic file transfer capabilities, and in-house production of reproducible construction documents. We also have written a considerable body of software to increase our flexibility and shorten response time in seating layouts, sightline design and lighting analysis.
